| Casting help Hi guys. I am looking for some tips on how to cast right and the proper line position for spincasting. I have a new Quantum Octane light action spincasting combo. I had it lined at the local tackle-shop, and headed to the pond for opening day of CT trout season (4/16). On my first cast, I folowed all the procedures that I am familiar with for spincasting(it's my first time <the last time tat I went was a while ago, and that was witha spincasting rod>) and it went about 2 feet (probably the slack that was in the line). By the reel, everything was tangled up. I was forced to cut a good percentage of the 100yds. of line off with a swiss army knife. Luckily, I was able to reline it myself, though I have not attempted to use it since Saturday.I want make sure I have done everything right. I would like any info that you can provide me about a good way to cast a spinning rod. How is the anti-reverse properly utilized? When I cast, the line should be in contact with the guide? I would greatly apreciate any help, especially pictures and diagrams. Please feel free to email me directly. My email address is aku94@hotmail.com. Also, what type of effect do sinkers have on a cast? I just want to figure out what went wrong- I figured that I was doing everything correct (by the various books/ instruction sheet) that I have. I appreciate your help greatly! ![]() |

| Re: Casting help The bait casting reel takes practice. I have had the same set up as you for three years and I still get bird nests from time to time. The reel has to be set for the weight of the bait you are casting. Try Practicing in a field or street for awhile with just a lead weight tied on the end. Keep your thumb on the spool and when the weight starts to fall to the ground slow the spool with your thumb. After awhile you will get the hang of it, but it will take time. I don't use mine anymore except when I have a problem with one of my open cast reels. good luck |
