Whitebait

Hi, can anyone tell me what whitebait is?

Whitebait are juvenile herrings and sprats and smelts. They are an excellent Bait for carp on heavily stocked commercial waters. You can often see them wased up on the beach in high summer when they get herded by predators.
You can buy blocks of whitebait from supermarkets.

Thanks Tony, was wanting to use them for carp but wasn't sure if they were saltwater species or not.

I just amended My post. Best place are Traditional Fishmongers and supermarkets I think some tackle shops stock it but best phone before making a trip.

it will be cheaper from a super market or fish mongers, if they dont work for bait they are great to eat, plastic bag with some flour and pepper in, add white bait, mix about, deep fry for a bit, eat whole
