Re: fishing near Wakefield

Not a wakefield member now but know of a couple - FLANSHAW DAM (more a pond really) i've fished many yr's ago but i,ve a workmate who goes & says it still produces (carp on boilie e.g) also tech & other stuff.
Also i think NEWMILLER DAM is on the book.
There's loads of other venues on the wakefield book, surely they have a website ??

I'll keep you posted.

Re: fishing near Wakefield

Hi Simon - had a word wi' me mate - FLANSHAW dam (pond) is very good - big carp, tench & crusians etc.
Quite near to this is WALKERS (pond)
Then there's the canal & calder @ HORBURY - all have fished well but expect will be all a bit slow this time of year.
Also (but not on this book) is STANLEY FERRY (canal) which i've fished myself with some success on a free stretch - go past the ferry boat pub & over the canal bridge & park up @ the "WOOD YARD" gate -which is normally chained shut but anglers are permitted to pass under / over on foot. - nice perch & roach here around pond mark are common (there's also pike in here too - got a roach here around 3/4lb & it had a bite the almost the size of it's length.

Re: fishing near Wakefield

The roach & perch in my AVATAR are from one of my trips to stanley ferry on one of the few times i bothered to take camera - some of these i guess arew approching the 3/4lb mark.
Trouble with this spot is i got ALL these in the 1st couple of hours, then did'nt get another bite for another 5 hours - My mate @ work has experienced this phenonomenon also. " PIKE" ??? - maybe moving in to spoil the party. There'a a good depth here 10 foot + a rod length out, however can also catch in mid water. - Red maggot seems to do best here - the perch don't seem to want to know on worm. (strange i think)
There's lso some good bream here i'm told.
