| River Avon at Charford, Hampshire Just researching some likely venues before the close season comes in, got all the info I need on Throop, Royalty & Winkton, but now looking for info on the Avon at Charford, I have heard that there are Barbel in their, but are difficult to locate and catch at the best of time, have any of you likely chaps had the good fortune of fishing at Charford and catching a Boris recently? |

Had a few barbel including one in double figures whilst trundling a prawn mounted on salmon gear. The prawn was only used when the water was coloured a bit - ie early (salmon) season heavy rain in March/April - most of the time fly or spinner was better . Got a few salmon also Can't help with anything recent though, as I haven't fished Charford since about 1970, but its a lovely stretch of river. __________________ RNLI Governor Nothing matters very much, few things matter at all - Plato ...only things like fresh bait and cold beer - Vagabond |

| Re: River Avon at Charford, Hampshire I haven't fished the Avon Charford but I have fished the Avon just above Fordingbridge on the Sandy Balls stretch during the summer with not much luck; NB. I seemed to be on my own as there was no-one else fishing it so there was no-one for me to pick their brains and aim me in the right direction. It was choked with streamer weed and the water was very clear too, plus there were some decent fish showing further down in my swim but they didn't seem to want a trotted bait, well the larger specimens didn't anyway. I was glad to get back to my local stream where knew I could start catching Barbel again. If I had someone who fished it regularly with me I might have fared a lot better. __________________ My Web Site (The Average Coarse Angler) Happiness is Fish Shaped (It used to be woman shaped but the wifes getting on a bit now) |
