Why do eyes on course fishing rods have to be so small. I have a Diawa 11ft 3 piece rod & find the eyes on the tip end are very small & tedious to thread the line through even with glasses on,( I am elderly by the way ).I have caught a 12lb carp with it, so why cannot the eyes be bigger or similar, like carp rods. Is it small eyes are for lighter rods & smaller fish, because you don't know when a large fish is going to take your bait .Is there a logical answer?. ip.

Re: Why do eyes on course fishing rods have to be so small. usually a match rod is used for targeting smaller fish, ie: lots of small fish to make the scales, therefore thinner/lighter lines used to target them. also a slightly whippier action than a standard float rod, off course sometimes a larger one will come along, just have to play it a bit more before its ready to be netted. __________________ good luck and tight lines chris lifes to short for animosity.

Re: Why do eyes on course fishing rods have to be so small. It sounds like you are using either a light or medium float rod or a heavier commercial float rod which all have small stand-off rod rings; these smaller standoff eyes are made for fishing the float and reducing line sticking to the rod in damp conditions during the cast. Using larger rings on float rods would introduce flat spots on the finer rod tips needed to cast a float, and make them slightly stiffer; which will also reduce the ability to use smaller and lighter hooklengths which are often necessary. You can try using a 'line threader' (which I sometimes use) which is sold by most good tackle shops for a little over 50p or a pound and makes threading the line through your rod rings a lot easier and quicker. __________________ My Web Site (The Average Coarse Angler) Happiness is Fish Shaped (It used to be woman shaped but the wifes getting on a bit now)
