| Reasons to be cheerful... OK, let me explain this one a little. I live near Dudley, I am member of both the mighty Birmingham Anglers and the somewhat less mighty Kinver Freeliners. Between both of these clubs I have the Staffs Worcester canal covered from Swindon (NO not the one near RAF Lyneham) and the river Severn. I can fish the cast majority of "Barbel Alley". I have access to the tench fishing at Dudmaston Hall, where my average tench is around 5 pound. So what is the point of this post? I guess what I am asking is , what has the club you are a member have that is worth talking about? What fishing , near you, do you love.I'm not trying to point score here, please don't misinterpet (or misspell, I know I will), I am just getting to what we need to be grateful for. So in my case it is being smack in the middle of some river fishing that people will drive from Essex (and I had the privilege of speaking to a very dedicated couple who did just that this year) to, do when it takes me 20 minutes to drive to the same spot. Some rock fishing mark that offers great sport. In my case it is having access to a lovely estate lake that I feel almost like a burglar when I fish it. It might be that you live in the North of Cornwall with its rugged Altantic swell. South of Cornwall with the fantastic beaches too. Wales with it's utter perfection, OK a bit biased there..... It might be you fish a tiny stream for 2LB chub, mixed in with the tree roots. Who knows. I guess what I'm getting at is, what do you love about the fishing on your doorstep? If you could only walk to your nearest fishing spot, what would be so special. __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk |

| Re: Reasons to be cheerful... I love all my fishing in the Bristol Channel ,some of the marks are a 2 minuite drive from home ,some several hours away , all provide great pleasure from the fishing and the wildlife you see when your out there . One of the best things is taking my highly trained leadweight hunting Jack Russell to the beach regularly to seek out all the loverly lost weigths that save me a fortune ..... Boat fishing provides a great pleasure to me also despite ,the ever nagging problem of seasickness ....but there we go its amesy job ,and i usually end up doing it ! __________________ Mike.. | Re: Reasons to be cheerful... Also a member of BAA and been on the waiting list for Kinver since early last year, doubt I will get lucky this year though, maybe next :) I feel lucky that with BAA there is some seriously good fishing for peanuts, had some of the most enjoyable days I can remember this summer and must have cost me less than a quid a day when I work it out. |
