What is your favorite fishing magazine! Does anyone read Skuttle Butt great lakes magazine? I being a manufacture of fishing products advertise in several magazines and Skuttle Butt magazine goes to many boat shows all over the country. This months magazine has a article about one of our hand tied crappie rigs that has a mustad hook connector and a ceramic sinker. Check the article out and see what you think! +++ If you own a store I suggest you apply for the Fish Tackle Reatailer magazine. This months issue is their buyers guide and goes out too 25,000 retailers and distributos as well as manufatures and has listings of most distributors and manufactures from the USA. +++ I picked up a new dealer this year the Catfish Connection. For anyone who has products and would like a nice place to advertise I suggest you check ut the fishing license directories in several stated. This year we have a add in Pa. and Ky.. The pa, directory has 1,100,000 cir while Ky. has 550,000 cir and seems to get us alot of orders!

Re: What is your favorite fishing magazine! I mostly read Bassin' and In-Fisherman. Occasionally I'll pick up something else but those are my favorite. You might want to also advertise by sponsoring sites similar to this. I post at bluegilltalk, roughfish.com, ncangler, pierandsurf, and catfish1. __________________ 2012 species: 13 All-time species: 65 New species caught in 2012: white sucker, popeye shiner, white shiner

| Re: What is your favorite fishing magazine! Over the last few years I've become a bit disenchanted with most of the monthly angling mags. I've kept copies going back ten years or more and find that they all say the same thing year on year; in spring they tell you how to catch the best bass ever, then in summer it's 'how to catch the biggest sole', etc. In autumn they tell you how to prepare for the winter cod and how to catch biggest whiting ever! And when you look back over all the earlier copies guess what? Nothing changes, they simply repeat the same information but present it differently. I don't spend money on mags these days - I simply dig out my copies from years gone by. Bah Humbug! Christmas greetings to all members and kind regards to all. __________________ Kissin' don't last! | Re: What is your favorite fishing magazine! I used to buy them regularly, initially sea angler, boat fishing etc, and then when I changed and started coarse fishing, I bought loads of different ones particularly when I was first starting out, as I found them helfpful for hints n tips etc, but I tend to find the monthly magazines quite repetitive now. Just how many ways are there to tie a hair rig? Thousands apparently - judging by the amount of times each carp magazine features a "new and exciting" way to tie a hair rig. Dont buy them much now, perhaps Angling Times or Anglers Mail occasionally. I did start buying PIKE and PREDATOR, which was quite good at first glance, however I got a bit fed up with editor banging on about how many pike over 20lb he has caught, and constant arguing between different contributors about the validity of other "renowned" pike anglers catches etc. I wanted to read about predator fishing, not about other contributors slagging each other off(it wasnt just the odd letter either but often 2/3 page articles!) so I didnt renew my subscription. I have found that this forum is the best place to look for hints, tips, and catch reports - which is basically all the magazines do anyway. |

Re: What is your favorite fishing magazine! I agree, this forum is all you'll need most of the time (& it's free). Only time i buy a Mag' these days is if there's a FREEBIE stuck to the front page ie some good line or feeders etc. __________________ Fishing - the best fun you can have with your clothes on.

Re: What is your favorite fishing magazine! The nice thing about the Shuttle Butt magazine is it is free. since I advertise in it they are sending me a 100 copies free this month because of a article I wrote in it. This will be the third article they put in that I wrote. I wrote one article on ceramic sinkers which turned out fine!. It goes to most of the USA boat shows free. You can access it free on the net also with each page shown on the net. I don;t use a boat much but lots of other info in it!

Re: What is your favorite fishing magazine! It's very rare that I buy a fishing magazine these days for the same reason as some of the other posters on this thread. It's mostly full of regurgitated info, and most of the articles have already been covered a thousand times before. How much more can be written on fishing the pellet waggler or a pole or a feeder on an overstocked commercial fishery full of stunted Carp using a bait that the writer gets from his sponsor? If you are a relative novice then the magazines are full of interesting information, but for the more experienced angler they are often trying to teach you how to suck eggs. I have quite a few copies of the old 'Creel' magazine which always had interesting articles by top anglers about a wide range of fish, different methods they had used and the venues that they fished without any of the modern trend of repeating the same old things over and over again and without mentioning certain makes of tackle and baits provided by the writers sponsor. If Creel was still published in the same format then I would go out of my way to buy it; however; nowerdays I will only buy a magazine if it had two or three interesting and fresh articles in it or it had a good freebie on the cover. I think that the nearest modern magazine to the old 'Creel' format may be the 'Waterlog' magazine. I would rather buy a good book and scour the web for info these days. __________________ My Web Site (The Average Coarse Angler) Happiness is Fish Shaped (It used to be woman shaped but the wifes getting on a bit now)

Re: What is your favorite fishing magazine! Trying not to do the same is quoted being done by the mags, but as a returning n00b, I find this forum a lot more useful. Sod waiting a month, and hoping the advice I'm looking for is in it.... Post here and get a reply, normally with any bias fully owned up to. Also can often get more than 1 point of view, way to fix/sove any problems. Not to mention the answers come in often that same day, or in the next couple of not. Recently picked up a few (as it turned out up to 4 years!) old TSF mags from my local tackle shop. Was in there buying a few bits, and was just looking at the HUGE monster cod on the cover, happen to comment "If I caught something like that I would probably sh@ myself!"... He then offers to help myself as they all old ones. ![]() After a good flick through, reading more or less the same things, just backing up what I learn from here, just left with some bored reading material. As a freebie, they are great.... Can't see myself paying for any though, unless I'm off on a trip and want something to read on the way. P.s Chazyboi You may want to try "Feeders Wives" ![]() __________________ -- Bart Rank : Rod Rattling Rookie! Bait Bung'ing Beginner! Fish caught '12 : Forum Members met : chris.oldgit
