| Re: Center pins/fly reels Generally you cannot trot with a Fly Reel................trust me ! Just because they're "that shape" dosnt mean they can be fished with (in that manner) You must buy a decent trotting reel ! Ripple. |

| Re: Center pins/fly reels It's cos' a fly reel has a permanent ratchet - won't go far wrong with a LEEDS centrepin - had mine 30 odd yr's & not a minutes bother great for trotting & still water. - can pick em' up on EBAY for £40 - £60. __________________ Fishing - the best fun you can have with your clothes on. |

| Re: Center pins/fly reels Quote:
Have a look round the web, you can get an OKUMA Aventa Pro for as little as £75 and it is a great centrepin for trotting. I have an OKUMA Sheffield which is a superb trotting reel and you can see them for sale for as little as £125 or thereabouts if you look around. I also own a 'Match Ariel' and two 'Black Cats' (one is a prototype) but my 'Sheffield' is the one I use the most for trotting. Unless you are a reel collector or tackle tart then you don't really need to pay the extortionate prices that are out there for centrepins. Some of the best centrepin anglers out there own a Sheffield or an Aventa Pro. This liink has the specs for the 'Martin Bowler', the 'Sheffield' and the Aventa Pro (all OKUMA centrepins): < OKUMA Centrepins > There are cheaper centrepins out there and some of them are fairly acceptable, but have a readup of any writeups you can find first before you buy and look to see what the more experienced anglers say about them before you buy otherwise your trotting experience could be a little dissapointing and might put you off using one for life. A good centrepin will give you years of enjoyment and give you a lot of pleasure, but a bad centrepin can be more of a hinderance. NB. You can also get a lot of enjoyment from using a centrepin if you are margin fishing for Carp or fishing the lift method for Tench on a stillwater; or for legering for Chub, Barbel or Roach on a small stream. Anyway I hope you find what you want tight lines Keith (BoldBear) __________________ My Web Site (The Average Coarse Angler) Happiness is Fish Shaped (It used to be woman shaped but the wifes getting on a bit now) |
