| Winterized Oils, Proper application. Please help!! Hey, Im a newbie at pike fishing and still too catch my first fish. i recently bought winterized oils that need injected. I plan on using half mackerel is it still a good idea to inject into the half bait? other sites say cover it in the oil and freeze it too dry in the oils. What is best for maximum effectiveness? Please help as i really want too land by first fish thank you. |

| Re: Winterized Oils, Proper application. Please help!! Hi. Theres nothing wrong with injecting half mackerels. Once you cast in the oil will escape and leave a nice smelly slick trail on the water for the fish to home in on. I always have some kind of oil when pike fishing and I normally put out 2 rods, one with the deadbait pumped up with oils and the other without. I also soak a few baits in normal vegetable oil with a touch of fish sauce while on the bank and again, this leaves a nice smelly slick trail when the bait is cast in. You can also use your shringes to pump up the swim bladder of whole deadbaits, so they are popped up off the bottom, a good method which allows the pike to see the bait more clearly in weedy/silty waters, this can also be done by using foam inserted into the deadbaits mouth. I know pike men who use these methods all of the time but some like to stick to the natural scent of the deadbait and leave the fancy techniques at home. I have had success on both. Good luck. |
