Hi everyone,
i fish my local canal, its good fishing, but mainly perch, roach and the odd bream...
ever since i started fishing ive always wanted to catch a tench.
i just wanted some tips on how to catch one...

what bait? how deep? how do i pick where to fish? and what groundbait?

ANY advise would be great!!

Sam start fishing on the bottom but don't be afraid to bring your bait a couple of feet off bottom if you're finding bites hard to come by.Also you shouldn't be afraid of using small baits ( single maggot or sweetcorn) the standard tactics might work most of the time but variation never hurts.

try sweetcorn and breadflake near some lillies,weeds,snaggy areas

sam come down the road to sandwell valley lol we got loads tench here ,,,what canal in wolvo u fishing ? tench are there if its the one that runs into brum ,,right get a good quality ground bait Van Den Eynde i use brown crumb and some tuti fruti addative and some pescava flavourd sweet corn a few casters and maggots, mix it together till firm but will break up pleanty of air in the mix sam ,,take it to your swim day before and ball it in make a nice carpet then fish sweetcorn or a bunch of maggots over it watch out cos ive had a few big carp round that way on the cut ,,tench love tutti fruit flav by us on the wolvo bham canal i fish it from oldbury to dudly port...and as cheef said lillies weeds and rush beds they love cover

forgot to add fish the far shelf of boat channel and far margins look out for fizzing bubbles over ground bait

i used to live wednesfield and fished that canal regular,chopped worm and caster is the bait for the tinkers and some nice fish there too.gl
