| In Need of Help! Hello, all fellow Fishermen. I am new to Freshwater Fishing, I am very keen to get started but I would like someone to help me and let me know all the kit I need to get started. For Freshwater Fishing. This information would be much appreciated as I have only ever done Sea Fishing before. Information like; what rod's, reel's, lines, lures, tackle etc. would be gratefully recieved. Tight Lines. Jay The Fish |

| Re: In Need of Help! best suggestion is to ask in the local tackle shop, and read, read and read! there are loads of options, including starting with an argos type kit, upgrading as you get more into the hobby. __________________ www.riverswayonline.co.uk |

| Re: In Need of Help! depends on where you intend to fish ,,but a 13 ft match rod and a feeder rod should do the trick ,,or even an avon style rod with two tops 3lb line for float and depending on what your after 5lb feeder flea bay throws some cheap stuff up |

A visit to a decent angling shop would be a great idea as they will be able to advise you as to local venues and the tackle you will need to catch in these places within your spending limits. Basic tackle you will need is: • Rod & reel • 2 x rod rests • A landing net • 1 x catapult (for firing out loosefeed) • 2 x plastic disgorgers (always worth carrying a spare as they are cheap and are often lost) • A comfortable seat • Bait box • Scissors or nail clippers (for trimming knots and cutting line) • A selection of waggler floats if you are fishing stillwaters or if you are fishing rivers a few small stick floats and avon floats. • A selection of split shot. • A selection of Hooks to Nylon (until you decide whether you want to tie your own or buy ready tied hooks) Notes: If you are fishing for smaller species of fish (Roach, Rudd, Dace etc.) you will need hooks of between size 18 or 20 depending on the baits you are using, with line strengths of around 1.5lb to 2.5lb and main lines of around 3lb together with a light 12 or 13ft float rod which will allow you to fish at all depths. If you are fishing for larger fish such as Carp, decent sized Tench, large Bream. Large Chub or Barbel then depending on the bait you are using you would need hooks from about size 16 up to around size 6 and line from about 4lb up to around 12lb depending on how big the fish run in the waters you are fishing; plus a rod of between 1.25lb test curve up to around 2.5lb test curve depending on the fish you are after. But of course it depends on what size fish are in your local fisheries. But have a talk with a decent tackleshop in your area to find out what sort of fish are in the waters around you and the tackle you will actually need. Also buying a good book is invaluable and can help you with anything else you will need to know. Also there will always be someone on this forum who can try to help you if you need any specific help about something you are unsure about. | Re: In Need of Help! pike fishing means scaling up your rod, reel line and different rigs. also long nose forceps are essential, as is a 42inch landing net and mat. __________________ www.riverswayonline.co.uk |
