Strictly Lure Fishing Are their any other lure only anglers in the forum? or am I the only masochist in this world ? I really need some good advice about this form of angling as I have just re started fishing after a 15 year lay off. Took my old kit to a couple of carp puddles , but got bored after a while and nearly thought of taking up knitting or something . I do not have the time or the inclination to sit behind a trio of matching rods waiting for a buzzer to sound. So I thought that I would give roving lure fishing a go. I soon became hooked with some good early results, nothing big but good fun on the light gear. Now I am getting frustrated at the lack of sport, have fished early morning, through the day and into and after dusk. My original intention was to fish for perch, so far I have caught mainly pike and chub but very few perch. I admit that i have bought a lot of cheap and nasty lures off of e-bay, but have still managed to catch a few fish with them, I have lost most of these now and the rest I have put away in the farthest reaches of the shed I can't throw tackle away even if it is trash! I have bought some 4play swim baits which I hope to use next week , maybe these lures will work better , but I am not so sure I think that I am not finding the fish as I do not really know how to use the different types of lure. As I never see anything other than bivvymen, I have found nobody to get advice from , so I am hoping that there are a few good souls out there that can help me. I am back to work tomorrow after six weeks of summer holiday (college lecturer) I find myself totally addicted to lure fishing, but also extremely frustrated at the lack of results, from the time that I have put into it.

Re: Strictly Lure Fishing I'm a lure guy from the left-hand side of the Atlantic, and I can sympathize and empathize with the addiction and the frustration... 4plays will get you some bass, pike, and zander. I also sell lures on Ebay and I may have some stuff that will help you with perch if you'll give me a few days to look. __________________ 2012 species: 13 All-time species: 65 New species caught in 2012: white sucker, popeye shiner, white shiner

Re: Strictly Lure Fishing Thats cool pyromaniac ( I like your monica, thats slang for your name in my parts) I will look on e bay, as i do most days in the hope of getting a good deal, but there is a lot of rubbish on there most of the time. I am looking forward to getting the new 4play lures, got a session planned for next weekend.

Re: Strictly Lure Fishing Hi Chef58. I have used the 4play lures on canal for pike etc, and they are good lures. My favourite at the moment are the Savage soft play lures with lip sculls attached, the action on them is amazing. I will be wiping the dust off my lure rod in a month or so time ready to get down the canal in the autumn.

Re: Strictly Lure Fishing Over here we're getting into the time when black bass start to pig out before the winter. At the same time the northern pike, walleye, sauger, muskellunge, flathead catfish, crappie, and drum are doing the same and the trout start to heat up. All can be caught on lures! __________________ 2012 species: 13 All-time species: 65 New species caught in 2012: white sucker, popeye shiner, white shiner

Hi Pyromaniac, It sounds like you have quite a few different fish that will take lures, I am limited to Pike, Perch, Chub, Zander and sometimes a Trout. although other fish will sometimes take a lure, they are not really worth targeting with this approach.I am keeping a Blog on blogspot called The Complete Dangler. So that my family and friends can keep up with what I am doing and where I have been.

Re: Strictly Lure Fishing Hi chef, Your right theres alot of cheap rubbish on ebay but considering you could catch on a piece of foil wrapped round a hook, they would all land a fish on their day. I would not be disheartened, it is notoriously hard going lure fishing through the mid summer months, as soon as the weed dies back a little and the temperature drops in a month or so things should start happening!! I went out on monday on the somerset levels and lure fished 8 different rivers, drains and canals and did not manage to land a single fish,(I hooked into and lost 3 pike, including two which faught over the lure, I blame the weedless jig heads for this but ive got more chance or hooking into a fish when I can get near them!!) I dont claim to be a pro angler but I normally cover so much water that it is very rare when I completly blank. With respect to lures I find it is best to have a range of all kinds in your tackle box from plugs and replicants to jigs and spinners. Saying that I have a box full of expensive rapala and savage gear lures and always revert back to the soft plastic jigs that have caught me all my upper double figure pike! Hope this helps Dan __________________ Species for 2011: Pike, Perch, Chub, Roach, Silver Eel, Thorn Back Ray.
