Hello all, i have recently been down my canal targeting pike. both trips i landed a pike in the first 3 casts. i stayed at the same spot for another 2 hours and caught nothing else?? i used the same lures and was casting to all areas of the water. why do the fish dry up after the first 5 minutes??

Re: canal pike fishing Pike aren't shoal fish but lone predators. If a Pike had been caught and returned to the water it isn't going to stick around the same area but swim off and hide for a while. So simply you caught what was probably the only two Pike (or at least the only 2 Pike that were interested in your lures) in that swim so you should have moved to another swim and kept moving every 5 or 6 casts until you made contact with another. When Pike fishing using lures you would seldom if ever stay in the same spot all day. Typically you would make several casts 'around the clock' covering as much of the water in front of you as possible. If you have no takes then move to another swim and repeat (you may also consider changing lures if nothing is going for it). __________________ I've now added a fishing blog to my website Here

Re: canal pike fishing Pack light, keep moving and you will find them - be quiet and keep down low when your on the bank too and don't keep on casting like mad....cast and retreve the lure slowly allowing it to rise and sink in the water, let the pike follow it, they will sometimes come all the way to the bank before they have a go at the lure right at your feet. Once you have had a pike from the swim...or cast around it enough to know theres nothing interested - move on to the next spot.
