Re: good bait for perch

Perch are predators so anything meaty or prey fish lures. Why nt jus dig a few worms ? Probly the best bait for perch

Re: good bait for perch

Get a trowel and get a load of worms out :)

Other than that your looking at live baits, like sticklebacks etc which are harder to fish with and harder to acquire!

Hi Samantha,
Ignore the Male choavanistic comments that you may get from one or two on here , they don’t really mean anything by them, most of these lads don’t realize that the largest ever Salmon was caught by a woman (63lb Mrs Mary Ballantyne) LOL.

Welcome to the forum.

You can always buy a pot of redworms from the fishing tackle shop, or go out on a warm damp evening with a small torch and your lawn will be covered in them all lying on the surface with their tails down their holes, but don’t make too many vibrations with your feet else you wont see them as they will be back down their holes in a flash before you know it.

If you prefer other baits then lively Maggots are good baits especially good when you also have some freebies sinking around them.

Try small pieces of breadflake to catch minnows or gudgeon then liphook these ; I have had several good days after large Perch by catching small gudgeon on a size 10 to 14 hook and then swinging the tiny gudgeon or minnow out amongst a shoal of nearbye Perch without even having to unhook the gudgeon or minnow first..

I have also had quite a few excellent days after Perch using very small Mepps spinners using a small 5-20grm class spinning rod, this can often be much more effective and fun than using a bait.
All you need is a small lightweight spinning rod, a few small spinners, a small landing-net and a small shoulder bag for your camera and bits-n-pieces and away you go searching different swims along the river or canal; its great sport.

There are a host of good baits that Tench like; my own favourites are: Breadflake, small redworm, sweetcorn, Caster, Maggots and soft fishmeal pellets.

Have fun and welcome to the forum
