HELP!! Spool tangle Hi all Firstly would just like to introduce myself as new memeber to forum. I have recently started up fishing again (15 year sabatical !!). I am a pleasure angler although I envisage I will be carp fishing quite often. I have just bought some basic fishing equipment including Drennan red range float fish reel from my local tackle shop. The chap in shop kindly added Maxima Chameleon 3lb 0.15 mm 100 m line to 40 mm dia spool. I have since tried out the reel float fishing on local pond and have experienced problems with the line. When casting a lot of excess line comes of the spool and I am forevering having to tense line and reel back onto spool. However even with the bail arm closed the line seems to slacken and quite often ended up with line wrapped around the spool's spindle. According to reel spec the line dia and length is fine. Is this a user error or problem with reel ? Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks

Re: HELP!! Spool tangle Is the reel overloaded? When loaded properly the line should sit below the lip of the spool.

| Re: HELP!! Spool tangle the line may have not being loaded correctly or as said above over loaded if the line is just below the lip of the spool then it is loaded correctly so im affraid its the annoying task of re spooling __________________ A bad day of fishing is better than a good day of work................ | Re: HELP!! Spool tangle you could try casting a weight as far as you can and reel in a few times to try and tighten it to the spool. when reeling in hold a wet cloth on the line and hold tight enough to create some resistance to help bed it, but not too tight or it may break. ![]() __________________ If it was easy, it would be called catching. | Re: HELP!! Spool tangle When I respool my reels, I place the spool of line in a bucket of water and add the 50 or so metres onto my backing line - this helps the line bed in properly. It could also be the case that the line is very old and has developed a memory making it like a spring. |

Re: HELP!! Spool tangle Sounds to me like the line has not been loaded with enough tension on the line to allow it to bed in. Maxima is decent line and should bed in nicely.

Re: HELP!! Spool tangle Hi all Just to update further on my line issue, I took Mark78's advice and cast with weight far aspossible then reeled in with damp cloth whilst tensing line. Unfortunatley the problem persists and is getting very frustrating as the line is continously slacking then wrapping around spindle. To me there seems to be an unusual amount of movement in reel causing line to slacken by itself. i know its a lighweight reel but does this movement seem normal ?

Re: HELP!! Spool tangle can you wind the reel backwards? is the anti reverse lever disengaged is the rear drag set to light . exess line spilling off the spool after a cast sounds like new springy line. what sort of movement with the reel are you refering to? __________________ beer so many venues, so little time.
