Re: canals and fishing lease holders Pop in to the nearest tackle shop to the canal; they should be able to give you information as to what parts are free fishing or on day tickets or club only waters and who owns the fishing rights along the canal. __________________ My Web Site (The Average Coarse Angler) Happiness is Fish Shaped (It used to be woman shaped but the wifes getting on a bit now)

Re: canals and fishing lease holders Go onto www.britishwaterways.co.uk and follow the link to Waterscape.com and at the very bottom of the first page there are 4 options 'boating, fishing, cycling, links'. Under fishing go to 'Find a fishery' and on the right of the page you can just enter your town or postcode and a search radius eg 10 miles and thats it, brings up every canal or river fishery in your area and the telephone numbers to contact.

Re: canals and fishing lease holders British waterways have now changed how they run canals. Some clubs were increasingly p@ssed off with paying for a section of canal just to have the next section free. You can now buy a waterways pass that allows you to fish the bits that are not leased out to clubs. If you are a member of a club that rents water from British waterways then you get a discount. I can't condone just turning up an waiting to get chucked off but if that's what you want to do then that's up to you I guess. Once you've been told not to fish there then you would be ill advised to then turn up there again I reckon. Of course the comments on British waterways only applies to their waters. __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk

Re: canals and fishing lease holders In theory there's a lot they can do. If you are not stealing fish though the reality is they'll ask you to leave. I was a club bailiff years ago and we were told that, in theory we could confiscate tackle but the legal mine field it opens up is not worth it (for example, what if the tackle is damaged or stolen while in your possession?). As for what's reasonable, how long's a piece of string (yes I know twice the distance from it's middle to one end)? If you want to fish for top quality fish in well catered for facilities with an on site tackle shop and accomodation, with a guide, then who knows. If all you want to do is drown maggots and catch scraggy looking gudgeon because all the other fish have been poached then not a lot I guess. __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk
