Thumbs up Fishing in my local area?

Hi All!
I live in Bath. Now apart from the obvious river Avon at the bottom of my road and the Kennet and Avon canal very close by, are there any other good fishing spots near Bath, freshwater lakes or rivers where I can go?

And how does the licencing arrangements work? I know I buy my rod licence from the Post Office, do I then have to pay my local angling club for the priveledge of fishing then also? Or does the rod licence cover that?

Colin

Born again angler!

Hi Colin, and welcome to the Forum,

I don't fish your area but someone else will be along to answer you query as far as where you can fish in Bath, or you can ask in any decent tackle shop in the area who will be able to give you lots of info.

The EA rod licence is a 'Rod Licence' not a fishing licence; you will need to have one of these even if you use a 'rod and line' in your own garden pond, so the answer is Yes you may still have to buy a day ticket or club membership if fishng is not free.

Re: Fishing in my local area?

Hello Colin. Not from Bath area but a quick look on Google will highlight stillwaters and angling clubs in your area. Thats how I found alot of lakes I didn't even know existed, right on my doorstep. Most places will charge you for fishing their waters, anywhere from £5 up to £10/day normally for a commercial or club water. Some waters you will need to join the owning club to fish - club fees are generally £30 to £50 a year (could be more depending) and then you will get a choice of fishing any of the waters and river stretches they own. Look on the net again though, at free fishing in your area - there are plenty of free stretches on rivers and canals, not many free still waters/lakes though. Also, if you are still unsure - pop down the local fishing shop and they will be able to tell you the best places to go and clubs to join etc. Tight lines!!

Re: Fishing in my local area?

Thanks for the excellent advice and info guys. Really appreciated.

Right I'm off to my local tackle shops here in Bath, which I have just found out we have here! Bacon's Tackle Box on the Lower Bristol Road just around the corner from me and then I'm going to Get Your Tackle Out in Twerton. I never knew these places existed until I took your advice guys. Cheers!

Take care
Colin
