Braid ?

Can anyone recomend a braid to use for cap fishing with an average weight beeing 6lb. After using braid for wrecking i want to use it for ledger fishing. I use silkworm an snake bite at the moment.

cheers tj

Re: Braid?

Hi TJ.

Fox 'Gravitron' is a good braid (sinking) but not sure if it goes down as low as 6lb. They do them in 1000 meter spools, and is very good.

There's also some relatively new braid coming out from Ron Thompson called 'Web Wire Braid'

It's around £9.99 for 110m spool and £19.99 for a 250m spool. It comes in breaking strains from 6lb to 20lb in the 110m spools, and 20lb-60lb on 250m spools..

Not used it but it sounds quite good...

Re: Braid?

What distance are you fishing at ?

Spoding, ledgering ,surface work, lead size ect

There are some great braids on the market and the biggest mistake people make with buying fishing braid , is that they increase the LB because braid is so thin

SO if you fish with 15lb mono then buy 15lb braid so that you get the benifit ( do not buy say 15lb mono so got 30lb braid )

6lb mono you can use most (but check) braid upto 15lb and it will be the same dia

And remember to set your drag has braid as no give

Re: Braid ?

Well if you are under arm casting I guest its about 20 - 30 foot so why use braid mate - unless you want it for your hook length ??

If you are catching 6lb carp then with a good rod and the reels clutch set right you could get away with 3 or 4 lb hook length ( clear water )

Braid is great and the only reason why I asked about the old distance as a lot of carp boys are fishing 80 to 150yrd plus - one guy I know is fishing next week in france and is fishing 300 yrds !! and yes he is using a boat to take the bait out ( nightmare if he gets a bit as he is rowing back in )

Just my thoughts as I drink the first beer of the night

Re: Braid ?

I set up the clutch and use braid for th hook lenght but after using braid wreck fishing i can feel the advantages. i am dead against the use of electronic bite indercaters, i think if you need them why why fish? its all about feel for me.
