Fruit as bait? Hi guys and gals, im going to try freshwater fishing in my local river for the first time next week and am pondering which baits to use. I was going to use maggots, bread, cheese paste and lobworm (both bait and groundbait mix) but I went for a walk with the missus and noticed an abundance of blackberry bushes lining the riverank. Would these be a good bait as they are a natural foodsource? I know people use all sorts of wierd addatives to make bait smell like fruit and even pinapple and tutifruity boilies. So do the fish eat real fruit as well? Many thanks Joe __________________ Sea 2012- 5brd rockling, whiting, LS Dogfish,Bass,Eel,Flounder F/W 2012- Catfish(16.5lb), Carp,Tench LITTER IS JUST LAZINESS!!

Re: Fruit as bait? Hi mate, you can use berrys but i havnt heard much of there use realy, worth a try i guess, could be a pian to put on the hook, i would stick with hemp and bread etc so you know you will catch as you are just getting into FW. I am not sure myself about the tuttifruity etc flavours, i have never neded them.

Re: Fruit as bait? Before the days of fake baits, boilies, pellets and stuff...natural baits were used regular - baits you dont see used much like berries, wasp grubs, potato, slugs - why not give them a go, if the berries grow by the water, the chances are the fish may have taken a liking to them!!

Re: Fruit as bait? I make a very successful paste out of elderberries, now I keep some berry's in the freezer, just not getting the time out to fish at the moe. Worked very well for wild carp. __________________ Ignore the margins at your peril

Re: Fruit as bait? have a look around the river where you are planning to fish ,see if there are any berry type bushes chances are when the berrys drop the fish will feed on them so use these to your advantage as the fish wilbe used to eating them anyway tight lines __________________ give a man a fish and feed him for a day ,teach a man to fish and he will be gone for a week fishing is a discipline in the equality of men ,for all men are equal in the eyes of a fish
