Re: Fishing from Boat on Thames

My mate used to fish on the Thames a lot as his garden backed on to it in Maidenhead and has fished there many times but has never known of any restrictions. Maybe someone else could shed some light on the subject?

As long as where the boat is moored isn't private fishing then you are fine. If it is private fishing then you would need a license/day ticket as well as your rod license. A lot of the Thames is still free fishing but there are an increasing number of areas that are now owned by clubs so you should check out the stretch you intend to fish first.

Thanks for the replies. The private / day license issue seems to be quite prevalent.
I did find this http://ukfishingforums.darkbb.com/t4...ishing-by-laws on Thames bylaws but it is pretty standard stuff.

Following up on my original question, I have spent a week boating between Windsor and Wallingford and can vouch for peakoverload's answer. Quite a few signs of private mooring and no fishing. However, where mooring is free or charged (~£4-£9) it is generally accepted that there is no problem fishing from the boat. Quite a large number of people spinning with limited success. We kept to float fishing using sweetcorn and turned up a few roach. General consensus of those fishing from the boats was that the fishing is currently poor and this was backed up from our experience - loads of bites from small fish but nothing much else.

Thanks again.
