| Some Advice Hi all I live in cumbria, a few miles from Lake Windermere. Two species i have never caught are Cats and Barbel. Can anyone put me on a water anywhere near where i live to have a good chance at either of these. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance Wayne ![]() |

| Re: Some Advice Look at fast flowing rivers/ streams for barbel. Some comercial lakes hold them but it is believed they do not put up as much of a fight as their River brothers and sisters. If you do not get exact locations on here I would visit your local tackle shop and ask the guys in there. as for cats again seek advice from the tackles shop or other local anglers __________________ Species 2011.. | Re: Some Advice Hi Wayne. I have fished the Derwent, Esk, Leven and Calder up your way and have yet to catch any course fish on these rivers and I have tried many methods. I have had plenty of trout, sea trout and salmon and a few eels. There are some great looking barbel swims on some of these rivers but I have never spotted one in the gin clear waters and have baited up likely looking spots and fished them but not even had a chub!! Allot of the stretches are game only though. I have looked on www.lakedistrictfishing.net and it shows no rivers in Cumbria for course fishing at all. I live in Darlington, just over an hours drive from you and there are the rivers Tees and Swale nearby which hold barbel and also try the River Ure near Hawes which is a similar distance to travel. Can't help you on the Catfish though mate - although the lakes up there could have anything laying hidden in the deep!! |

| Re: Some Advice Some great info and a very handy website, thanks Maddison and northern eye. Im sure i heard of some caravan park in cumbria in one of the angling mags a while back that produced either a, or a couple of big cats. |

| Re: Some Advice No problem, spend alot of time in Cumbria working and holiday'ing and always bring my fishing gear. Lonsdale Park near Carlisle has Catfish in its Reed Mere lake but not sure about day tickets, you might have to stay on-site to fish the lakes? http://www.lonsdalepark.co.uk |
