Hi All Have just returned to coarse fishing after a gap of almost 40 years. I have just retired and now have the time. I have bought 2 new rods, a tsi carp rod and a tsi float rod. The carp rod casts like a dream and has a nice action when playing fish. The float rod casts like a lead ballon, but has a lovely action. The 12ft carp rod has 6 decent sized rings but the 12ft float rod has12 small/tiny rings why so many rings? I am considering removing 5 or 6 rings in the hope that this would improve its casting ability. Why so many rings & will the removal of some of them improve it?

Re: Rod Rings Float rods have lots of small rings to keep the line from sticking to the rod blank. What line are you using?

Re: Rod Rings Removing the rings may decrease the friction caused on each ring but you'll lose some of the action as the points where the force is being applied the the blank will be further apart which could lead to dead spots in the rod

Re: Rod Rings That could be part of the problem but is unlikely. 6lb line could be considered heavy if the float rod is a match rod. Typically I'd use 6lb line on a heavy float/pellet waggler or Avon type float. On a Match Rod I might only use 3-4lb. Are you saying you bought one of these? http://www.fishtec.co.uk/buy.cfm/mat...d/40/yes/41872 If so 6lb line should be fine. However more importantly what reel are you using on the float rod? A reel not designed for float fishing and/or the wrong size for the rod will massively impede casting. For example fitting a large Baitrunner type reel loaded with thick line on to a light float rod is just asking for trouble. __________________ I've now added a fishing blog to my website Here

Re: Rod Rings Yes thats the rod I bought but not at that price. I am using a mitchell 300 filled to the brim with a premium 6lb line. I am having to use a heavy float setup; uses 2 swan shot, to get any distance. Really cant believe how bad at casting the rod is especially considering its list price and yet the matching carp rod casts like a dream; using a 1/2 oz lead easily casts 50 yds. Looking forward to see what I get using a 3 or 4 oz lead on it. (That with 18lb Adrema line). I have an old repaired light 10ft beechcaster 3 to 4 oz that casts futher than the Tsi rod using the same setup but doesnt have the same feel. Very tempted to sell the Tsi and get something else.
