Hi, I currently have an environment agency non migratory Trout and Coarse fishing licence, does this entitle me to fish for trout in lakes? Someone told me i need another licence to do this, but the only other licence i can find online is a migratory licence which is for sea and estuary fishing...

Re: Confusion with rod licences! There is a difference between fishing for Brown Trout and Rainbows. Rainbow Trout are non native and are not thought to breed in our waters (lakes or rivers)therefore you may fish for them all year round. Brown Trout are native and do breed in our waters,so you can only fish for them during the season.

Re: Confusion with rod licences! Cheers, I understand now the reason, it was because i was using bread on a river. which from what you are sujesting is illegal as they are a game fish and are only allowed to be caught on flys! thanks to both of you!

Re: Confusion with rod licences! You can catch trout on any method you want it's just people tend to fly fish for them. If you were using a worm on a river and you happened to catch a brown trout out of season, then it is not illegal as long as you were not specifically targetting only brown trout and anyway, who is to know? You could be going for river perch, chub anything!! Likewise, if you were spinning on a river and you caught a salmon or sea trout - you aint gonna go to jail for catching it - simply put it back and all will be OK. Just make sure that if you are on the rivers, it aint the closed season - cos' then you can get into bother with the E.A bailiffs!!

Re: Confusion with rod licences! Game fish can be caught in various ways, but the way you choose to fish for them is usually dictated by the fishery. The majority of stillwater game fisheries are fly only and most salmon/seatrout river fishing is either fly or spinning.
