Re: closed season

It would certainly cause uproar if the commercials had a close season but I think it would give some of the heavy fished waters a break allowing the fish to spawn and recover.
I think trawlers should have a season imposed on them too!! And ban the foreign trawlers that are allowed to come into our waters and fish them dry!!!

Re: closed season

I think also it would make some of some of the bigger fish more catchable.......... with them not being fished for 365 days a year.

If the owners of a stillwater or if a fishing club votes to retain the closed season on any of their stillwaters they still can.

One of my clubs used to retain the closed season on their estate lake, however we caught a couple of eastern Europeans fishing there during the last close season and eating what they caught, we also found the remains of other fish that they had caught previously strewn in the bushes; so this year for the first time we abandoned the closed season so that we could keep an eye on the water throughout the year.

Apparently this is happening more often right across the UK.

Re: closed season

That is a problem isn't it. Closed seasons mean empty venues which can lead to poaching, thefts and vandilism as no club can afford full time security gaurds. Such a shame that people are like this, what a horrible place this country is at times!!

Re: closed season

never really looked at it like this, so even if they wanted to its almost impossible because of the eastern Europeans, don't understand why people do this on a stillwater there's a big blue sea out there where they can get as much as they like and eat it.......

Re: closed season

There used to be a nationwide close season rivers/stillwaters even back when this was in operation there was people who broke the rules..As for the spawning debait not all fish breed in the close season, many spawn in relation to the weather..this in mind i cant see why there needs to be a close season anymore...for me its 365 fishing all the way..
