New starting again some advice needed thanks

Ok new to the forum hey everyone .

So im a nebie to fishing well not that new lol, i bought a good few beginner rods about a year ago so anyway i gone fishing about 9 months ago and got really over the rigs and the reel totally confused me i ended up having about 5 tangles then i just give up lol... Anyway i want to give it another go but proply this time lol so i have a decent sea rod and 1 decent coarse rod their not brilleant but hey they will do for now lol.

I also have a mini fishing pen rod with a multiplyer reel, heres the link

http://www.amazon.com/World-Smallest.../dp/B000OGEEAC

the one i have is gold thought now i no that it looks like some begginer junk but i have readen good reviews on it and i think i want to give this ago first

Now my biggest problem with fishing is making the rigs and tying the nots so i was wondering if i could use a pole rig for this little pen rod?
If not any advice on setting up rigs? finding corect depth etc?

thanks alot

Sorry to say it but my advice would be to throw the pen rod in the bin. Its nothing but a gimmick and not fit for catching a cold.
What fish do you wish to target and what waters to you hope to find these in ?

Re: New starting again some advice needed thanks

I would second that suggestion.

As John McEnroe said "You cannot be serious!".

I can't believe that anyone would seriously think of buying such rubbish for fishing.
this is a wind-up surely.

These short plastic Pen rods are a total waste of time and money and you would be far better off using or buying a proper rod and reel.

These days you can buy a fairy decent rod (both Lure rods or bait rods) for as little as £15 if you look round plus a fairly decent fixed spool reel to start with for around £20.

I am not sure what that is in Dollars but for the equivaent to £35 you have got a rod and reel 100 times better and which can cast 100 times as far as the cheap Pen Toy.

These adverts are made to catch more total newbie anglers than fish so don't believe any good reviews you have read.

You only have to look at the rubbish reviews that are on the link you showed us, comments such as "This rod is worthless junk" and "I can't believe I even bought this thing" should give you a clue.

Before we can advise further it would be a good idea to ask you what sort of fishing do you want to do (Sea or freshwater, Lure/float or leger etc.)? and what type of fish do you want to catch? so that if you are genuine we can help you catch a few fish.

tight lines.

Re: New starting again some advice needed thanks

Firstly i would like to thank you for the replys, i am deadly serious about catching some fish.

I curently have about a 9ft sea rod and a 7ft coarse rod i only have the yellow tip for it but i supose that wont be a problem just extra sensitivity.

Now im going to pick another rod up sometime next week but my plans to do say pvc bag on one rod and just some good maggots or worms for the other rod. I would like to catch a carp but just to catch a fish right now would be great.

I have real problems with setting up rigs and also tying the nots like tying the 2 lines together on the day etc.

A nother one of my problems is getting the line twisted and in knots on my spinning reel thats why i bought the pen with a multiplyer.

Ok back onto the pen i wasn't intending on just going fishing with the pen as i no it wont catch me 10lb carp etc but i do belive it could catch some smaller things. Ive had a good look at it and the tip bends at a 90degree and the bottom near the handle about 10 degree. I do think that its a little bit stronger than you think because it is carbon not plastic and the multiplyer really looks good quality even thought its small. I was just going to take the pen rod along with me why i done my proper fishing and just give it ago

But i was going to take some proper rods with me.

people have catched things with it

Its a informative forum for people who also have lives mate, not facebook !
if you want to use the pen rod go ahead and Im sure youl find out for yourself how wank it is.

as for your other rods, Id ditch the sea rod for use on fresh water as you will probably find this rod is too heavy.
Without going into loads of deatil you need to start with the basics, either use a maggot feeder (see google/ youtube for setup) of a simple stick float.
forget PVA and carp gear for now.
Before you set of on you first fishing trip ensure you are prepared t catch land and release all fish quickly and safely.
ensure you have,
Landing net
unhooking Mat
disgorger/forceps
above is bare essential.
If you live near a tackle shop I would advise going in there and getting some face time with of the guys in there

Ok thanks for the reply i was fully aware of that mate its just that it had alot of views and not much anyway thanks for the reply

Ok lets just forget the pen rod, im planning on doing some sea at perch rock then some lake not in a park thought as theirs to many messing hoodies and im not a big fan of dogs.

I also found casting a big problem so thats why i thought of the pvc bag so its heavy i like got my bigest cast to like 7ft lol i no. Do u think multiplyers are easyer than spinner type reels as i always get my spinner tangled and the thought of doing that with a fish on is worrying lol.

I did find floats difficult as getting the corect depth with the weights was hard lol thats why i thought of yousing the yellow tip?

thanks for the reply

Re: New starting again some advice needed thanks

Errm I know eff all about sea fishing and multiplyers.
I use a free spool reel for my fishing, as for the yellow tip that will most likely be a quiver tip which is used for bite indication when feeder/ledger fishing, this is a fine method but if the fish are high in the water float is best.
Have you thought about buying a cheap whip/pole ? you can buy ready made rigs for these although I would advise learning to tie your own eventually. the pole will catch fish and get you confident in landing, handling and unhooking a fish.
