Northern ireland coarse fishing Anyone know anything about this please post here or pm me. I really have taken an urge to go coarse fishing, off school with a chest infection and was reading through my library of fishing books and started reading about coarse fishing in one of them and really want to have a go now. Any where between bangor, ards peninsula or down to newcastle at a strech would do, looking at the quoile near d'patrick. Thanks AL

Re: Northern ireland coarse fishing get some groundbait and maggots from your local tackle shop and get out on the bank and give it a try. watch what any other anglers around you are doing and you will get some good tips its mainly trial and error you wont catch many fish reading about it on a computer screen you need to get out there also make sure you get your license and permit its only a couple of quid

Re: Northern ireland coarse fishing Thanks mate, I'm going down on wednesday, may not get maggots as I'm going straight after school. The guy in saintfield tackle shop recommended sweetcorn and bread for bait and groundbait? Thanks AL

Re: Northern ireland coarse fishing yea mate bread and sweetcorn should work ok but you will find maggots are much better or maybe see if you can get some worms from your garden get a bucket of water and add some fairy liquid to it and pour this over the grass after about five minutes you see some worms appear on the surface and if you see any other anglers about ask them if they will give you some maggots most will usually well the best of luck anyway and stick a post up on how you got on

Re: Northern ireland coarse fishing theres very few experienced anglers who wont take a junior angler under their wing - i think the shock horror that they aint pissed up and spray painting the houses seems to do the trick ![]() If you have the chance get down to the water as often as you can after school - wether you take tackle with you or not , as its amazing how much you will pick up and digest ! The good thing with maggots is you can hide them in the fridge for a few days ( not sure exactly how long - aint bought any in 20 years lol ) and they will live happily until you can get out .. I cant really advise you anywhere as much as Silver as i havent fished coarse for donkeys years and only ever did the sea when i lived in Holywood apart from one try on the Bann .. I do tho wish you every success and hope to see a fish filled report from you in the not too distant future ( thats just a shandy btw ) ![]() __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting

Re: Northern ireland coarse fishing Thanks guys, I have a plan for the worms, it involves a large barrel that's got plants and soil in it and worms mysteriously appearing in it, lol. Hope my da doesn't read this. I can agree with your comment about some people being uneasy (not sure for a good word to discribe it) about younger anglers, especially when you turn up in a hoodie and trackies

Re: Northern ireland coarse fishing Didn't get anything, definitely hooked a fish, I could feel the shudder of it on the line. It got off when I didn't reel in fast enough when it come towards me. I was only there for 2-3 hrs and the river wasn't running at all, no current in the main section even, bad combo of a lot of rain and a rising tide. I really enjoyed it, I was talking to another fisherman who gave me some maggots to use instead of the sweetcorn I had. Anyways, I'm going to go and try Polehill at the weekend to see if I can catch something. Thanks AL
