Unhappy Help, lures stuck with soap smell

My roommate took my tackle box to go after some catfish and left a bar of soap he was using as bait inside and now everything inside smells of soap. Anyone know anything I can do to get the smell out?

Re: Help, lures stuck with soap smell

A lot of fish I catch will be from the lake and eaten, so I'd like to stay away from WD-40. I know a lot of people use it, but I will be ingesting the fish and would rather try something else.

I was wondering, would boiling the lures work to break down the scent? Maybe even toss in some fish oil or old fish bones to try and give it a new smell. Has anyone tried anything similar?

Re: Help, lures stuck with soap smell

i spilt some pilchard oil into my pike tackle box and the whoe thing now stinks of the stuff,

perhaps a liberal sprinkling of something like that would do the trick
