hello

i just thought i would say hello and ask a little bit of advice whilst im here.
i am new to fishing so know nothing at all!
i just want to know if there is a rod and reel setup that i could use for most fishing ie carp fishing and general coarse fishing with the same rod an reel now i dont mind spending money but dont want to pay a fortune on stuff that doesnt last/cant do the job.
my budget will be around £100-£250 at the most for this i obviously want everything i will need bags holdall ect.
i really apreciate any imput thanks chris

is it the norm to have a couple of rods out when fishing? or will that be a bit advanced for me?

I have the banshee rods, but I would think that a 2.5lb tc carp rod is a bit too much at this stage. Perhaps consider a float or even a barbel rod for now. It's not like you'll throw them away so consider it the start of your collection

Re: hello

Have a look at the John Wilson rods (John Wilson Barbel Avon/quiver) , it is not only fairly inexpensive but is an excellent rod for around £70.
That will leave you around £180 to buy a reel, banksticks and a chair etc.

Or you can get a Greys Prodigy Specialist rod which comes with both a 1.5lb normal tip section plus a 2lb tip section for around £120 and is an excellent rod.
That will leave you with around £130 to buy a reel, banksticks and a chair etc.

Greys also sell a Prodigy Barbel rod with quiver & normal tips for £130 as well so it depends on how much you want to spend on your rod.

Any of these rods can be used for either legering or float fishing for Tench, Bream, Chub, Barbel Carp etc.

Fox, Diawa and Drennan (and others) all make excellent rods so you are spoilt for choice; but if you can afford it I would steer clear of the really cheap rods.

If you want good but inexpensive reels then have a look at the OKUMA reels which are excellent for the price or if you can spend around £70 or more have a look at the Shimano reels which are 1st class.

I'm straining at my bit, I've seen the Barbel feeding in the shallow gravel runs and I just can't wait.

I post and read here, as well as www.bluegilltalk.com, www.ultimatebass.com, www.bassfactory.com/bass-fishing-forum, www.here-fishyfishy.co.uk, and a few other forums. I subscribe to two fishing magazines. I read fishing articles online. I fish with three other Americans and a Mexican chef. I talk to guys I meet at the lakes & rivers. Basically, I try to have as much information as is humanly possible, and that's why I'm as good as I am.

Chris, I say welcome! Start sensibly, one rod at a time. Then expand your craft from there. I've been fishing seriously for 21 years and I rarely use 2 rods at a time even now.....

Re: hello

thanks for the replies guys

i went to a local fishery today (cornfields at padiham) i bought a quiver rod and reel with some bits of floats hooks for £20 off my mate got a pint of maggots and went to learn! frustrating at first as i kept getting tangled then the guy who runs the fishery came over adjusted my reel and float. i ended up cacthing 2 small carp around 2 pound and two small tench probably 1-1.5 pound enjoyable day and learnt a lot next outing sunday with my mates who carp fish!
