Split Shot Probably a silly question but I'm having trouble stopping the split shot slideing down the line? I can nip it as tight as possible with pliers or even teeth yet it still doesn't seem to nip tight enough. I must admit it seems pretty soft! if I move the float once it loses all tightness......

Re: Split Shot Be very careful pinching shot on too tight as this can damage the line. Two smaller shot usually works better than one big one as far as stopping slipping goes. As andystone says, what make is it ? I rarely have this problem so it might just be the shot. __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk

Re: Split Shot The shot I'm useing is "Anchor Double Cut" in one of them rotateing tubs, its soft stuff as it seems the shots goes before the line does. Just tried a size 4 nipping it different ways before finally squashing it on some 8lb line and it still slips pretty easy without flattening the line. Probably reminising here but I remember useing some old lead shot years ago which took some moving when nipped! and like mentioned above if pressed too tight the line would snap at the shot. out of interest are they still made of Lead these days?

Re: Split Shot Yep, does seem a bit daft(banning pifhsing lead but not shotgun lead). Personally I don't mind the new stuff if it gives the antis one less thing to shoot at us. See what I did there, no, OK I'll stick to programmer jokes like "Knock Knock","Who's there?" "What you haven't got an ipad, you caveman".....they're not funny either. I use anchor or dismore and never had a problem with them slipping. Make sure the line is all the way to the back of the split. Careful about damaging the line. A bit of a "nip" rather than an arm wrenching crush should do it. If you want to use big shot (Swan etc) then you might want to put some very fine pole silicine tubing on the line and put the shot on that. If it's just to lock a float I tend to use plastic leger stops or those little beady float stops. Important thing is to make sure the fish can shed the float if it gets tethered. Get back if none of this helps. Right I'm off to see if the carp are feeding :) Tight Lines!! __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk

Cheers for the help all its much apreciated .Do you think the thickness of the line also plays a part in the way the shot nips tight. I don't know if I have a bad batch here but I did a few experiments on some different lines from 5lb to 10lb and must say it struggled to hold on all of them! most of all the 10lb strain..... cheers Jasper

Re: Split Shot The thicker the line the less effective smaller sizes will be . The odd shot slipping shouldn't be too much of a problem but if they are all doing it something is either wrong with the shot or the way you are using it. Do you have a local tackle dealer ? Might be worth calling in there for a chat and please support them too, if you can. __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk
