Fishing near Newcastle upon Tyne?

Just back from a holiday in the Lake District where I took my twin boys (8yrs old) fishing at Esthwaite fishery. We loved it. Just ordered two rods for my sons birthday next week. Over the week we tried leger and float.
Where can we go near Newcastle?
Cheers.

Esthwaite / Hawkshead is a fantastic water, although I've only fly fished it before.

Angel of the North Fishing Lakes might be worth a visit

Re: Fishing near Newcastle upon Tyne?

Hi Tinker.
As Dan says, Angel of the North is a great place for course fishing and the staff are very helpfull if you need any beginners tips for the boys. Aldin Grange fishery at Bearpark near Durham is another great place. It is a pretty new fishery so is clean and tidy with good facilities. The advantage of this place is that there are also 2 fly fishing lakes onsite so if your willing to pay the extra you can try your hand at course and fly in the same day. I have not fished much further north than the Durham area but I do know that there is fishing on the lake in Leazes park opposite the Victoria hospital and this is ran by the Leazes Park AA. You can get day tickets in the park office or in local tackle shops, the club also have a few other lakes in the area. Let me know how you get on at Leazes park, as I was interested in trying it out myself.

Thanks NE,
I've made a note of those places and look forward to visiting them soon.
Leases park isn't far from me so I plan on taking the lads there soon.
