Thumbs down Beware Angling Times free line

A couple of weeks back, Angling times were giving away free 150m spools of camoflage fishing line. I picked up a copy with a spool of 8lb line & thought it would be perfect to spool up a reel for medium to heavy feeder fishing. reeled on about 30m to discover there was a knotted join in the line. Stripped it off & started to load the reel on the remainder of the line. Another 50m & you've guessed it..... another knotted join. Gave up & binned it....

What did they say when you contacted them to advise that the line had knots in it?

What make was it?
I will certainly make sure I will never buy it if I see it in the shops, thanks for the warning.

Re: Beware Angling Times free line

I have a spool of 4lb camo line that came free with Angling Times last year. I use it for hooklengths mainly and its faired quite well but the stuff that came in the 150m spools the other week looks like totally different stuff, really stiff and cheap looking. I wont be using it!!
Beware the jumbo spools of carp line from Fladden - They do the same, knots and even ended up with 3 different ends of line sticking off the spool when I carried on unwinding it - Crap!!

Don't remember the make & don't really want to rummage around in the bin to find the spool LOL I tend to stick to brands I know if I buy line. Daiwa Sensor or Maxima. I've used freebee line from A.T. in the past & it's been OK. Could'nt be bothered contacting them about it as a phone call would probably cost more than the lines value.

Re: Beware Angling Times free line

I'd agree with Greenheart there. I used to use Maxima for everything but have now switched to Sensor. Totally dependable and cheap as chips. Abrasion resistant too. Both good lines. I like Bayer Perlon for lighter work or Drennan Float . Lowest sensor is 4lb but sensor is a little stiff for float work. I also use the free spools of Berkley that the AM send me every now and then when another of my letters gets published :) Best prize so far was a rod holdall for two made up rods, well chuffed as it was only a quick letter.
