Return to coarse fishing

After quite a few years away from coarse angling to pursue sea fishing I'm going back to freshwater in order to be able to initiate my 7 year old son in to the sport and need some advise with regard to some aspects of modern coarse angling.

I've never fished a "commercial" fishery before and it seems that fishing the carp waggler with banded pellet is the way to catch a lot of the time so can any body enlighten me as to the best way to set the float up, depth etc, are the floats self cocking or do they need shotting, I've aquired a "carp waggler rod" rated 2-6 lb for the main line but how heavy should I go with the hook length or do you go straight through with the main line?

As for feed, how much how often do you catapult pellet out?

Any help will be appreciated
