Float fishing Whiteacres

Hi, going down to white acres in a few days and thought i might try float fishing for the first time.

I need help and advice on choosing a float for what i need, the trouble if i dont know what weight float etc i need for casting distance, it all gets confusing trying to find info on the web.
I'm not after any specific species, i'll just be happy to catch whatever.
i'll be using 5lb mainline to a size 14 hook to nylon 3lb breaking strain. Using chopped worm, corn, chopped hotdog and maggot as hookbait.
Not looking to cast any further than about 8 meters.

Was thinking about fishing a few inches over depth to start, with a drennan loaded insert crystal waggler with float stops either side then enough shot down the line to set the float nicely and drop the bait down quickly. I thought the pre loaded waggler would be easier than non loaded just to get me started off.

Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thank you, Ben

Re: Float fishing Whiteacres

Sounds like that setup should work fine , play around with depth and rate of drop till the fish tell you what works . And don't forget to cast beyond your feeding spot then sharply wind in with the rod tip submerged till your float is in the right place , this will sink the line so it doesn't drift with the surface flow dragging your float ( & bait !) with it . Especialy important if it's a bit breezy . Good luck , nothing is more enjoyable than watching a float sitting half in your world half in the mysterious water world, and that magic moment when it suddenly quivers then slides under .

Thanks for the reply, that's great.
Would a loaded crystal waggler 1.g + 1bb be overkill? or would it get the job done?
thanks again, Ben
