Breath of freash air

As you may know, i have only been fishing since August. I have been looking for a syndicate or club to join and have had mixed experiences. When i first started i joined a small syndicate for £120. Fished there 6 times and did'nt catch a thing. Moaned a bit and got a refund after the fella pointed out there arn't many fish in there anyway.

Tried another club with a waiting list and despite 3 atempts to contact them, not even an acknowlegement.

Then stumbled upon another by fishing a lake that i should'nt have and got a ticking off by the bailiff/club secretary. Their joining process was so old fashioned that I was baffled and gave up because you had to go on the web site, request in writing for a membership form, get 2 current members to verify you (don't know any members) then post off form with photo and a cheque for approval.

However, Found a breath of fresh air today. Small 1 and half acre pond/lake which is well stocked with carp to 20lb, tench to 6lb perch chub and even pike. £20 joining fee and £10 anual fee. Spoke to the secretary on the phone who was really friendly and helpful.

cool...

Well Done, There are some good clubs out there, it is always worth looking online around your area. I would look for a club that encourages pleasure fishing as their main body of fishing.

I agree with Steve, there are some good clubs out there and you are in my opinion far better off joining a club than having to rely on day ticket and commercial fisheries.
It sounds like you have found a nice little friendly club with a very nice fishery.

There are clubs out there to suit all types of anglers if you look and I would definitely much prefer to belong to a good club with all of the advantages it gives you than have to rely on fishing day ticket waters and commercials. It all depends on what you want out of anglng.

I belong to two clubs in my area, one has access to around 18 to 20 venues (stillwaters and rivers) for under £70 per year.

The other club that I belong to; is a club which only has 1 water and a small limited membership and which normally only takes ‘invited members’ and which has owned the fishing rights on a beautiful secluded estate lake for well over 70 years and has a long waiting list.
NB. I was privileged to be awarded a free life membership to this club for services rendered over the years.

Anyway I’m glad that you have found a nice club with a good water to belong to, well done.
