Old school or just a dinosaur?

OK , I admit it, I am still "old school" coarse fishing .

Happiest when fishing size 20 or lower but getting bites and still landing them.

Now, I do realise things have changed since I hung up my waders a few years ago.

So my question is really about fishing commercials.

IF I get in to a local club (which has a waiting list), I'll be fishing a wonderful old estate lake for tench.

BUT , if I don't then I am going to try a few of these her commercials out.

I am close to places like Baldings (Bridgnorth), Moorlands (off towards worcester , Furnace Mill (Stourport way), so am going to burst my cherry and got to on or more of them (probably Moorlands or Sion).

Only trouble is, I have absolutely no idea how to approach these places outside of my time honoured , fish light , get a bite and then take it from there , approach.

So you younger and more recent anglers, any chance of some pointers ?

Much appreciated.

Terry Dactul.

I live local to worcester and I really wouldn't suggest you fish Moorlands. You couldn't choose somewhere that is LESS like an estate lake. If your looking for a more natural style day ticket fishery why not try Top Barn http://www.topbarn.co.uk/htm/fishpool.htm Woodside and Fir tree are my two favourite pools and Fir tree especially offers some lovely mixed pleasure fishing in peaceful surroundings. I've had carp to 14lb, tench to 6lb, bream to 6lb plus perch, chub, millions of rudd, roach and gudgeon. But it's not a fishery that is absolutely rammed with fish, so you need a bit of skill and patience, which will be rewarded. Old school works just fine and you pay on the bank.

Alternatively try Hawford Bridge which is one step nearer to being a "Commercial" but still pretty and friendly. There are more carp, but still plenty of other fish too and the place has a really nice atmosphere.

I'm sure Moorlands is very well run if you are a matchman, but for the pleasure angler it's just a lot of holes in the ground IMHO

Good luck!
