how annoying As you all know i have been fishing since August and up untill today i was struggling to catch a double figure carp. When i caught my 8lb carp today, i weighed it and the scales showed 4lb... . Thats not right i thought so i borrowed some scales and low and behold...8lb.Bloody scales i thought, gonna get some digital ones. I kept thinking about it and decided to have proper look at my little scales. As i am left handed i hold them in a certain way and didn't realise, i have been looking at kilograms, pounds are on the back... Now what i cant confirm is wether my previous record carp was 8.5lb as i thought or infact i weighed it in kilos and he infact weighed nearer 20lb.. how annoying, lesson learnt and i will pay attention in future.. __________________ I snagged.., 5lb tench, 25.3lb common, 16.4lb mirror , 2.2lb roach, 4 lb chub and 10lb Ghost.

Re: how annoying ah well at least you know now, mate. was you refering to the common you caught at bax farm? if so 8lb was about right,a 20lber is definitely bigger. i was thinkinking about getting some digis too, as it would seem easier to weigh and conclude on an exact weight. __________________ If it was easy, it would be called catching. Now I may be an idiot, but there is one thing I am not, sir, and that, sir, is an idiot.....

Ive just ordered a set of digital scales from ebay for the princely sum of about 5 quid ! will let you know if they are any cop ![]() With regards to the carp i think the size difference between an eight pounder and twenty would be pretty evident , but like Mark says - lesson learnt __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting

Re: how annoying Hi. I got some of those cheap Stillwater digi scales they advertise in Angling Times and they are useless. The minute the the fish flips/moves in the sling/net it throws the reading out n you have to start again. Annoying. They are a standard cheap digi scale and I have seen em sold under different names so be carefull what you buy. I have gone back to the traditional analoge/dial type scales now.

Re: how annoying I bought myself some Fox digi scales last year and they were ok but I have heard stories of digi scales giving false readings when the batteries start to get a bit low. I much prefer Dial scales as you can see the needle moving up and I am more confident that the weight is accurate, plus you don't need batteries, so I gave them to my son and I went back to my old favourite Avons which are still weighing accurately after 25 years. I won't be able to replace them when they finally give up the ghost though as the Avon scales are no longer made. __________________ My Web Site (The Average Coarse Angler) Happiness is Fish Shaped (It used to be woman shaped but the wifes getting on a bit now)
