dead fish

Mate of mine own some land in KENT and on that he has a fair size lake. He has owned the land for 19 years and keep ducks and stuff and feeds the fish now and again.

Anyway he went down there a few days ago and all the fish were dead on the surface, he pulled out 86 fish all big. He don't know the fish but said some of them were as wide as your shoulders and thinks they were carp..

Taking away the obvious things like, poluton/contamination, could that be just down to the weather like he thinks..

sounds a bit crazy to me...

Re: dead fish

Hello mate,

You need to contact the Environment Agency! 0800 80 70 60. It could be many things including disease.
They should send someone to take some samples including the fish and send them for analysis.

Did they have any markings on them, Or got any pictures of them i may be able to help.

Re: dead fish

Is it near farmland? I say this as many of the farmers are spreading muck on the fields around here, maybe some slurry got in? washed in by rain?

Re: dead fish

i spoke to him at length today. all the fish died over a couple of weeks. no local farms, nothing been dumped, they even tested the water quality and it was fine.... no one fishes it.

just 86 dead fish. could they have just starved in the long winter..

i was set to go fish there in the spring, they had no idea the carp were so big, he reckons a few of them were over 30lb dead weight....

real shame..
