How many species have you caught?

I've been reading a lot of stuff in recent months about Patrick Sébile, the owner of Sébile Lures, who caught his 600th species of fish last April. It got me thinking about trying to catch a couple hundred myself... I'm currently at 44, and I'm wondering how that stacks up. So how many species have you caught on rod & reel?

Re: How many species have you caught?

If you fish fresh and salt you might be surprised how many you can pile up..... I didn't think we had that much diversity here in Virginia either, but then when I started looking at the lists of fresh and saltwater fish we have, plus invasives like the northern snakeheads that are all over in the DC metro area, a couple hundred isn't a stretch.

Re: How many species have you caught?

Here in south-western Norway there are not many species in freshwater. I've only caught 7 different species. However, it is something quite different in salt water, where the possibilities are good. I guess I have to make a effort to improve on my 16 species.
