Advice for overseas import

Hi Guys and Gals,

I moved to the U.K. 3 months ago from NZ and I'm already missing my fishing. I'm used to fly fishing crystal clear rivers and sea fishing. I'm keen to get out for a fish here, but from what I've seen so far, it is quite different. About all I know is that you need an environment agency licence and a permit, so I would like some advice on what I need, where to go and what its going to cost. I don't really care what I fish for, aslong as I can catch something. What sort of basic gear will I need? I'm only here for 8 more months, so don't want to splash out on loads of gear. I'm living near Telford at the moment. What would be my options for ponds/lakes/rivers? Also are there any good fishing stores close by? Any advice would be appreciated.

you seem to have landed yourself in probably the best location for barbel fishing in the uk and the trout fishing aint far away either welcome to england and tight lines

Don't forget Birmingham Anglers as they have 6 lakes not a stone throw from Telford (at Nordley) and a lot of the Severn below Bridgnorth as well as one stretch in Shrewsbury too. That and some of the Teme.
