Pike Fishing Hey all, I am going to try pike fishing sometime this year, and im just needing a few guidelines.. could i use normal fishing line? attach a wire trace then put a spinner/lure on the end of that? ie, maxima Fishing line going through my 1.5lb test curve, then my wire trace clipped on to my lure.. ? Thanks in advance any tips will be much appericated!

Re: Pike Fishing what bs of line were you thinking of . I would personally use depending on the size of fish 15/18lb with a 18 in trace of either 30lb opr 40lb then your spinner, If you have not caught pike before please remember that they are not as tough as they look and great care is needed in handling them SOME GREAT TIPS AND ADVICE HERE

Re: Pike Fishing na! 8lb mono. will be ok, depends on what type of fishing you are doing, is it weedy, snaggy, clear? is the site over-fished. I would go (or I do) go as light as I can but I am an experienced Piker. I dont like bukllyingthe fish knowing I have heavy line etc rather enjoy the fish as long as possible for bringing it to the net.

Re: Pike Fishing you may want to check local club rules as some have a min breaking strain for pike and carp

Re: Pike Fishing I don't have a lot of northern pike experience, but I'll tell you what I do when I'm fishing for longnose gars, fish that are in many ways the same as northerns but don't always get as big when it comes to girth as pike. The longnose gars I typically get a hold of can range as small as two foot and get as big as three foot and weigh around five pounds, though I know there's bigger ones where I fish. I usually go 10 lb. line at the minimum, but I do use steel leaders that are 20 lb. test. I use them because I can't tell you how many times those gars, and pike too, have been able to bite through my line. Hope that helps some. ![]()
