Shelters Hi I am looking to purchase a new shelter for fishing on the Fens. For the last two seasons I have used a Daiwa Mission brollie system with a wrap over which has been brilliant. A lot of the swims I fish are very tight so require something that can be set up on a uneven narrow bank, taking into account the steep sides of the bank Any recommendations? Darrell

Re: Shelters I might get more replies, the Zander mob will know what I require, you Carp boys want a flat area to set up a bivvie for a week which will not fit on most Fenland drains![]() Darrell

Re: Shelters Hi Darrell - Personally I'm an Oval Brolly user/fan. (Don't own a bivvy) The reason for this is exactly as you state above - the ability to 'squeeze' into very tight swims and ones on a slope. Well, I've been using a Chub Oval Extra for 7/8 years which has served me well (2/3 times a week in all weathers) but has now started to leak a little around the 'Finial' i.e. the central part where all the ribs locate. I've the wrap for it, so it now gets used as a winter/very wet weather shelter. I guess most other brands are very similar - however, this spring I bought a 2010 version JRC Oval replacement which I rather like. It's a little different to the Chub one in its form. Basically the centre 'Finial' has been set further back and the front/top panel is also longer and extends further than a standard oval (I think it's been modelled on the old Berkley Oval which isn't available anymore). This means three things - 1 - you can tuck into it further and it feels 'roomier' , 2 - you don't clout you head when the buzzer goes off in the middle of the night, and 3 - you usually stay dryer when not using a wrap if it rains. The disadvantage/s if there are any - 1) You need storm poles if there's any wind, to support that extended top panel. 2) All 4 ribs at the back touch the deck. This does mean you need a slightly bigger and flatter clearing than a standard brolly where only two ribs are on the ground. The other thing I like a lot and use both summer and winter (seems to keep the dew out) is the Mozzi net. Perfect fit giving a brilliant panoramic view day and night. I believe they do a wrap for it as well if you wanted one. Worth checking out I think BTW - Many congrats on the Zed catch the other night - That a very impressive tally. I only managed a 3lb'er Saturday daytime on the G&S. ![]() __________________ E' Pest
