Re: weils

Sorry to hear about your friend Nick, hope your friend recovers soon.

Here's some info for anyone who doesn't know what Weils desease is and it's symptoms:
<Weils desease>

Weils disease can be especially rife for anglers when rain and high water levels can wash rats urine out of holes in the banks.
Be careful especially if you have any cuts in your skin.

Re: weils

I`m a pest controller and have been for for the past 22 years , and weils is a nasty thing to catch, it comes from contact with rat urine and crap from rats ,you can also get it from water where you fish .....so take care when putting fingers in your mouth , take some hand wash gell with you , prefereably with antiseptic inside......always wash your hands first before eating.

Re: weils

Weils disease is most readily caught through cuts in the skin or membranes like eye membrane etc, the bacteria are readily killed in the stomach so that is a minimal risk to catch it eating a butty after handling a fish. Regular hand cleaning with the alcohol gels and Cover cuts grazes etc as thats the way you best avoid getting it.

Re: weils

Does this apply to saltwater as well as freshwater, or does the salt kill the bacteria?
