In winter time i tend to scale down just about everything , bait , hook size line , float, feeder size Feed a small amount and have a couple of places with feed going into so you can rotate to them if and when they produce more inportant is Keep warm |

| Re: new angler to winter months thanks for your help, how small should i go, i tend to use a size ten hook on 5 lb mono hook line whith 10 pound reel line also tend to use sweetcorn i put 3 on. is this too heavy? the lake i fish on is of a medium size and depth ranges up to 20 feet at the deepest points but i tend to stay down the shallow end ranging from 3 feet (where i do most my fishing) to 8 - 10 feet. is fishing in the margins still affective in the winter? or are all the larger fish holed up in the deeper areas? i havent tried ledgering yet as i dont know what to use i have some feeders but my local lake doesnt allow groundbaite as im self taught and dont know a lot of fishing lingo i dont know if their is anything i can use to get round this? sorry for all the questions but as i said im self taught and could do with some experianced heads to throw any advice my way. |

| Re: new angler to winter months Sounds like your fishing a bit heavy there mate , id scale your mainline to 6-8lb and your hook link to 4-5lb. hook size depends on what bait you are using , for sweetcorn and small pellets Id use a 14. Obviously if you start attracting the larger carp you will need to step up your gear slightly. Fishing in the winter is hard enough but stick with it, try different techniques , baits, areas and Im sure you will succeed. Best of luck __________________ Species 2011.. depends on what your after mate ] if your after silver fish . a 1.5/2lb bottom (hook line) will be enough 10lb reel line is ok for carp , but if after silver fish drop it to 5/6 max . Try single grains , hook size i go down to max of 18 now as me eyes are flooked and i can not see anything smaller look at using punched bread as bait |
