Woodland Lakes -Thirsk

What a wonderful days fishing we had on Sunday. Our first time at Woodland Lakes and god what an introduction.
Arrived in good time, 7.30 first light and already the place was buzzing with Matchmen and pleasure anglers alike. Got some advice from the guy in the tackle shop on what lake to go on and he was spot on.
Set up in a couple of good swims in front of the island and no sooner had the coffee poured from the flasks the action began. A nice carp of a few pound fell to my mates hair rigged meat. Casting feeder to the island the fish didnt care for my meat feast so changed to the pole at 8 metres and the silvers started to come with some nice young carp all caught on maggot and worm whilst potting in crushed hemp and choppy. The day was turning out beautiful, no wind and the sun breaking through behind the trees.
My mate was starting to haul in some nice carp after switching to worm and casting into open water. By lunchtime we had a good mixed bag of fish and it was time to sample the bar. A couple of pints of bitter at the swim is definately a rare treat. The action continued throughout the afternoon, a few slow points but my mate kept hauling in the carp up to 9lb and I kept pulling in the roach and skimmers. A switch to pellet waggler mid afternoon yielded a better stamp of bream. Then we topped off the day with a couple more good strong fighting carp. 50 - 60lb of fish made for a superb day, bagged up is definately a term I've not used too often.
We left Woodlands extremely happy and I disagree with all of the negative things I've heard on forums about this place. Friendly and helpful staff, great location, well stocked lakes and healthy fish and for £7 a day its well worth the spends. Hoping to go again soon. Anyone know how the place fishes as the cold weather comes in?
