| Re: rigs for my pole Hi Your problem may be location not presentation. Canal carp are finicky but not impossible to catch Carp are not that tackle shy if they are in a feeding mood. I would feed two or three area, margins/near side shelve, middle and the far side. Any cover like reeds, lilies are also a good bet. Rotate each area for fifteen minutes until bites are forthcoming. Do not flog a swim if you are getting action, catch one or two then rest the swim but keep the free offerings going in If you know that the Carp and tench are in the area you fish, I would pop down to the canal the night before and pre-bait the areas and then fish at first light, get there early so no one else benefits from your pre-baiting At four foot deep I would use a float with a long bristle, not a very slim one. fish over depth by three to four inches. Have the main bulk of the shot at just over half depth with one or two no 10s or 8s between the hook and the bulk shot. The long bristle will help if there is a bit of tow, remove/add a shot or adjust the amount of line laying on the bottom to keep your bait still. Its all trail and error. A good bait for tench and Carp on canal is bread, hemp seed is a cracking feed, both are far cheaper as well especially when pre-baiting Darrell |
