| taking fishing up again hi there.i used to go fishing as a kid every minute i was not doing my home work.i still have all my rods and reels and have aquired a few more in recent years with the idea of going again.i need new tackle as i think the last time i went the ledgers and weights were leaded so this shows you how long it has been.i had optonics ,monkey climbers, bivvy tents almost everything a person would have who went 24/7.apart from the rods and a couple of reels i need to get everything again(oh yeh i have a keep and landing net but i reckon they wouild fall apart as soon as they saw water as they probably forgotten how to swim).basically i was hopefully hoping that someone out there could point me in the right direction as to how to get started again as i reckon in the last 20 years fishing tackle has changed considerably,ie rigs,floats,weight,ledgers,line.ect. i was thinking i would probably start again by river fishing and maybe a bit of lake fishing, then when i was more confident maybe get back into carp fishing but for now just the basics would be good. any advice would be mush appreciated. oh and if there are any books/dvd's for this topic that would be benificial to me that would be good too. thanks. |

| Re: taking fishing up again the basics are still the basics ... ledgers, waggler, stick flotats, feeders etc. no need to get caught up in all the "new, this will catch everytime gimmick", keep to same kit/rigs you used back in the day. i was in same boat couple years ago, after not having fished since early 90's, i had to pretty much restart. if you've still got your old end tackle, check your floats for condition, weights to see if they're non toxic. best get new hooks, line etc, but all i did was sorted my old tackle box out, binned what wasn't any good or questionable, kept most of my floats, some of which are a good 30 year old! have a look round the rigs pages on here to get ideas for new & different rigs. as you get your confidence back, update your tackle for carp fishing as you go, try to keep things simple again, modify rigs & methods as you gain confidence in your setups. i know this is basic & obvious sounding advice, but no need to over complicate things untill you've got your confidence back. good luck __________________ www.mobilespanner1.co.uk |
