Hi Can you tell me what you think of this rod?

http://www.play.com/Gadgets/Gadgets/...8838%7Ccat:Bar

Hi

I want to purchase a rod and found this online which retracts into a 8 inch pen!

Would i be able to catch anything with this?

and do you need to hold a license to freshwater fish?

Thanks

Re: Hi Can you tell me what you think of this rod?

As a famous sportsman used to say "You cannot be serious!!"

Unless you are a Garden Gnome sitting round a small garden pond then I wouldn't even look at it let alone try to use it.

The only thing I can see you catching with it is a tiny stickleback and even then only if it was blind and you placed the bait directly into its mouth.

If you want to do any fishing then get yourself a real rod not something that would not be out of place in a christmas cracker.

Yes but 40" is nothing, apart from it being far too small to even cast a lure more than about 10 ft you would not find any fish worth catching at that short a range and the action would be terrible.

Do yourself a favour and save your money, you can buy a proper rod for £10 which is a 100 times as good if you look round.

Honestly I wouldnt waste my money on something as daft as that pen rod.

Ok mate thanks a lot.

I should probably post a new thread for this but in your infinite wisdom of fishing do you know a website that lists all the fishing spots in england and wales?

Re: Hi Can you tell me what you think of this rod?

Try one of these websites:
http://fisheries.co.uk/
http://www.fishinginuk.co.uk/

Dont forget you will need a rod licence from <here> if you are fishing in the UK (with the few exceptions that are mentioned on the site).

You will need a rod licence regardless of whether the actual fishing is free or not as it is a licence to use a rod & line and not a licence to fish any particular fishery, therefore you might have to also pay for a day ticket to fish.

tight lines

Re: Hi Can you tell me what you think of this rod?

DOWN KIETH .. DOWN !!

I've seen these Honk Kong wonders on e-bay and thought they would be great for your desk or as a stocking filler .. but c'mon mate .. did you really think you could catch a fish with it .. look at the reel size
line capacity..erm 10 foot ??
infact , it's about as much use as one of my 13 foot beach rods would be as a pen .....

Re: Hi Can you tell me what you think of this rod?

I was given one of these things a few years ago.
Did use it on a small stream, took ages to reel in the small trouties. Easier to grab handfuls of line as if fly fishing, no control on such a short rod, if rod is the correct term, model or toy would be best. I'd say save your pennies, buy a have decent telescopic if you want something to use.
The rings are not made for line, caused fraying. No lining.

Re: Hi Can you tell me what you think of this rod?

My first fishing experience was finger lining for perch on the stainy canal so it can be done, but as every one else has said , its just a gimmick and you could get a full sized or telescopic rod for that much
