Essentials for fresh water fishing

I have been driving to south for sea fishing. 3 hours driving in total is long and also expensive. It would be better to do some fishing in the fresh water near by Slough. But I have not got a clue about fresh water fishing as well as not having a clue about sea fishing. So I might need help and some advise.

Could anyone tell me the essentials for fresh water fishing? Also if you could put link for those essentials, it might be helpful to see actually what we are talking about.

Also would my rod and reel for see be OK?

I know the most important one: Rod license. I will get it when I come back from Turkey. (I am going for 10 days. By any chance if I catch anything while I am there, I will prepare a catch report)

Rod & reel, tackle, bait (I know bait changes for different fish species) and general must have things.

Re: Essentials for fresh water fishing

I see.

For example do I need to get different rod & reel? Would I need different rig for fresh water? Is electronic bite alarms, nets etc must have gears?

Re: Essentials for fresh water fishing

I presume your sea fishing rod will be a good sturdy rod capable of casting big weights, if so then that will do fine for carp (esp big carp) but you will need an alarm or other form of bite indication, rod wise maybe check out this one, its the matt hayes all rounder rod and will suit most situations - http://www.totalfishinggear.co.uk/on...ds/39/no/38443
Reel wise for carp I use a baitrunner reel (well i do now) but it's not a must have, I mainly use my quiver rod (which I love) and if you choose to do this you wont need a baitrunner, as your relying on watching the tip for your bites and striking in that manor as opposed to hearing your alarm and striking, im my opinion you wont go wrong with shimano reels be that baitrunner wise or not! ;-)
