| Re: Can anyone id all these fish for me? Here is a picture of a Crucian that I caught a few weeks ago. As you can see a crucians lower fins have a redish tint and you can see why Crucians are knicknamed 'little Bars of Gold' with their brownish gold body colour. Sometimes on bigger and older Crucians the body colour is a deeper golden brown and the lower fins turn a sort of redish brown but the red is still evident. In this photo you can see the body shape, the fin shapes and the mouth and eye sizes. The reason why I suspect the fish at the start of this thread were hybrids was because they appeared to have plain greyish fins, the eyes and mouths looked slightly different and the tail fins were very suspect in a couple of them, and the body colour was also a bit suspect which is why I suspect they are crossbred. Below is one of the least suspect Crucians that was shown at the start of this thread; as you can see there is still a fair amount of difference: They were still very nice fish though, nothing can take that away from them however whether or not they are true Crucians is a bit suspect. __________________ My Web Site (The Average Coarse Angler) Happiness is Fish Shaped (It used to be woman shaped but the wifes getting on a bit now) |

| Re: Can anyone id all these fish for me? I don’t think I have ever caught a ‘First generation Hybrid Carp (F1)’ . They are not stocked in any of the waters I currently fish but I have heard that they fight well, feed confidently throughout the year, providing good winter sport and don’t grow that big, plus they are short lived (5 to 6yrs) and are sterile and therefore will not normally spawn. I have also read that there is a common misconception regarding F1s in that they are advertised as being unable to contract KHV, and that some people may also take this as meaning that they are a hardy fish (which they are apparently not, unlike your 'normal' carp strains). But they are a fish that is often stocked into Commercials because they don't grow too big and they supply good sport for Match Anglers who want to keep their keepnets full. That’s all I know about them. I only know what I have read about them. __________________ My Web Site (The Average Coarse Angler) Happiness is Fish Shaped (It used to be woman shaped but the wifes getting on a bit now) |
