Help With New Rod Hi Guys, Im after a little bit of advice, im looking for a new rod and reel as my one at the moment is a bit basic. Im relatively new to fishing, my main type of fishing is float fishing using the waggler, but i also do a bit of feeder fishing now and again. I usually fish my local canals but would like to start going to fisheries, rivers etc... I dont want to pay too much money as i only class myself as a basic angler.

Re: Help With New Rod It would help if you would tell us what is wrong with your current rod, a budget and what species you target or if you are 'just' after silvers? __________________ I've now added a fishing blog to my website Here

Re: Help With New Rod sorry...my rod is a telescopic rod and the two top sections are jammed together so i cant collapse it all of the way. my budget would be around the £60 mark. My favourite stretch of canal contains a variety of fish, i would be fishing for; roach, rudd, perch, bream, tench, carp up to 10lb, on my last two trips ive even spotted 2 koi carp but these seem to be easily spooked

Re: Help With New Rod A couple of options spring to mind. Either buy a 'generic' float rod which is one that differs from say a match rod which has a very soft tip and will have a medium action and is kinda a 'jack of all trades'. Ideally you'd get one that has a screw thread in the top eye for attaching a quiver tip. Or buy an Avon/Quiver type rod. This is effectively two rods in one. The Avon top will be what you would use for float fishing whilst the Quiver top you'd obviously use for legering. Some Avon tops though are very heavy and designed primarily for fish like Barbel and so not that suitable for silvers on a Canal. I'd take a look at the John Wilson Rovex Avon Quiver Deluxe which you can pick up for around £55. This has an Avon top with a 1.25lb Test Curve which whilst not as delicate as a match rod will be fine for just about everything. Ideally you'd want something a little stronger for larger Carp but then it wouldn't be as good for Silvers so this is a pretty good compromise. It also comes with a Quiver top with 3 insertable tips of 1.5oz, 2oz and 3oz which will cover most of your fishing needs. The rod itself can be fished at both 11ft and 13ft making it good for margin and distance fishing. __________________ I've now added a fishing blog to my website Here

Re: Help With New Rod what would be your recommendation for only float fishing?

| Re: Help With New Rod For float only I'd take a look at the following and see which suits your needs best, it mainly depends if you want a rod that's primarily for silver but capable of bonus Carp or a rod that primarily for Commercial sized Carp but also capable of landing Silvers: Shimano Vengeance Match 13ft £52 approx This is a bit of an all rounder, perfectly capable of targeting Roach and Bream but also has a bit of beef for something heavier. Drennan Series 7 13ft Carp Waggler £62 approx Designed really for fishing Commercials for Carp, but it can also land Silvers but is not really designed for bagging tiny silvers. The Power Waggler version of this rod is really designed just for Carp and Tench so this rod should be fine for Silvers in the 1/2lb up range.
